Stockport decorating guide
Walls, stone details and stairways. Practical points to prepare before requesting a quote.

Walls, stone details and stairways
Identify each surface separately when planning an exterior refresh. Painted masonry, exposed stone, timber and metal can need different preparation; avoid assuming one coating is suitable for everything.
Colours and finishes
For a stairway or tall hallway, provide photographs showing the highest areas and the access below. Include handrails, spindles, skirtings and ceilings in the scope to make quotations easier to compare.
Before requesting a price
Send your full postcode, photographs, approximate dimensions and your preferred dates. Explain any access restrictions and whether furniture needs to stay in place. Ask for preparation, materials and the surfaces included to be set out in the written quotation.
For properties with special restrictions, confirm any relevant requirements before changing the exterior or original features.
